Where can I walk my dog?
There are quite a few places around Kaipara where you can walk your dog. Kaipara District Council has an interactive map that has the places and applicable rules for off-leash and on-leash areas.
Be fair to your dog – In summer, hot sand, concrete and tar seal burn paws. Walk early morning or evening. If you're going to the shops for an hour leave your dog behind rather than locking your pet in a hot car. Even with windows down dogs can overheat and die from heat exhaustion. Provide lots of water if you are going somewhere on a hot day.
Pick up after your pet and place the bag into the rubbish. Don't leave it lying on the beach or dumped on the side of the kerb. Consider other people.
Maungaturoto Country Club Community Walkway – Access is opposite the high school on Bickerstaffe Road or from the country club. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. The walkway is closed during lambing season usually July to August then reopens again in spring. Visit facebook.com/MaungaturotoCountryClub/ for updates on walkway closures and reopenings.
