Who is the local authority?

Kaipara District Council is the administrative authority that provides various services to residents in the area. Maungaturoto is within the Otamatea Ward. Call 0800 727 059, 24 hours 7 days a week. 

Offices at Dargaville: Northland Regional Council building, 32 Hokianga Road. Hours Monday to Friday - 8.00am to 4.30pm, except Wednesday - 9.00am to 4.30pm. 

Mangawhai: The Hub Unit 6/6 Molesworth Drive, Kaipara, Mangawhai. Hours Monday to Friday - 9.30am to 3.00pm.

Where do I find out about Postal Services?

NZ Post Shop – Tony’s Lotto – call 09 431 8058, 147 Hurndall Street, Maungaturoto.
A full range of postal services is available. Also, vehicle registrations and Road User Charges can be paid at the counter. For hours call in or contact the above phone number for more information.

Note: If you’re new to the area and have a Rural Delivery address please fill out the NZ Post form with your details so Rural Delivery has the information it needs.

What about rubbish and recycling?

Collection days for rubbish bags and recycling bags are on Wednesdays each week using the pre-paid blue or green rubbish bags obtained from your local Four Square and other outlets in the township. 

NOTE: The Green Rubbish bags are only picked up in specific areas check with Kaipara District Council where these bags are permitted.

Recycling is to be put in the yellow bags also available from the Four Square. The following are accepted for recycling:
  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminium cans
  • Aerosol cans
  • Tins
  • Plastics Grade 1 (Clear only, and no meat trays as those that aren't up to grade can contaminate the plastic quality)
  • Plastics Grade 2 (Milk bottles, clear and coloured)

Place your rubbish bags at the gate no later than 8am on the day of collection and not beforehand.

Transfer Stations

Two transfer stations are available in the district for public use; there is also one at Uretiti run by Whangarei District Council:

Dargaville (managed by Kaipara Refuse) – call 09 439 0425, 199 Awakino Road, Dargaville. Tuesday to Friday 9am–4pm. Saturday 10am–4pm. (Closed Sunday – Monday). Closed All Public Holidays

Hakaru (Managed by Northland Waste & Econowaste) – call 09 438 0802,
636 Kaiwaka - Mangawhai Road, Hakaru. Monday to Sunday 8am–4pm. Closed All Public Holidays

Uretiti Recycling Centre – call 0905 020 202, Tip Road, Waipu. 
Visit https://www.wdc.govt.nz/Services/Rubbish/Rubbish-Stations for information on current open days and hours. Note this facility is run by Whangarei District Council.

Where can I fill up my car?

Caltex Maungaturoto – call 09 431 8483, 198 Hurndall St, Maungaturoto. Prepay system for petrol/diesel – ask at the counter for service.

GAS Maungaturoto – call 09 431 8174, 28 Hurndall St East, Maungaturoto. Prepay 24-hour pumps available.

Where is the nearest Supermarket?

Maungaturoto Four Square – call 09 431 8700, 163 Hurndall Street, Maungaturoto.
This is your nearest store for everyday needs. A fully stocked store with everything to keep the cupboards and fridge/freezer filled up.

Woolworths Dargaville does deliveries to the township visit https://www.woolworths.co.nz/  and choose Dargaville as your nearest store. Choose ‘delivery’ or you can click and collect from the store.

New World Mangawhai – located at 80 Molesworth Drive, Mangawhai.

Pak 'N Save – located at Walton Street, Whangarei. This store does online click-and-collect orders.
